STORYLINES

Oh, sister

Coronado goes for a four-peat crown in Division IV, spearheaded by junior Abigail Callahan. Her sister, Cassie, who now plays at UC San Diego, received Division III Player of the Year honors in 2010, when the Islanders started their title reign.

Mavericks mentor

La Costa Canyon alum Natalie Elkind becomes the coach of the Mavericks, who seek a repeat title in Division II behind standout Pilar Torres. Elkind, Class of ’04, performed on three championship teams before heading to Washington State.

Tough act to follow

What can Carlsbad do for an encore after winning its first league and section crowns last season? The graduation of four All-Avocado League West first-team performers means regrouping for the Lancers in the rugged Division I championship race.

Dandy Dons

Junior Brittany Doan returns to key the attack for Cathedral Catholic, which last season claimed its first Division III championship since 2008. Major college recruits Makaela Kraus (Colorado) and Lindy Porritt (Michigan) further bolster the lineup.

Westview viewpoint

Junior forward Hailey Harbison spearheads perennial power Westview with a boost from freshman midfielder Marley Canalas, a member of the Under-15 national team. The Wolverines are bidding for their second Division II crown in three seasons.
