For the second time in two years the Serra Conquistadors ended West Hills’ girls basketball season. A year ago, Serra edged the Wolf Pack 50-47 in the San Diego Section Division II finals.
In Tuesday’s rematch, the host Conquistadors had a little more breathing room as they topped the Pack 67-59 in the Division II semifinals.
“It’s just an amazing feeling that we’re going to the ’ship again,” said senior Tylinn Carter, who had a team-high 19 points plus 12 rebounds, five steals and four assists.
“We ran a trail, which is like a high-low offense and were able to dominate inside,” she added.
Top-seeded Serra (24-6) will meet La Costa Canyon (29-2) on Friday at San Diego State’s Viejas Arena.
Tiarra Griffis contributed 13 points, including 7 of 8 free throws. The 6-foot-2 senior also gobbled eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Griffis eclipsed a career milestone with her 1,000th rebound.
“I knew I was close, but I didn’t know how close, because one of our assistant coaches mentioned it to me,” Griffis said. “I was kinda surprised when they announced that I got it in this game. I wasn’t expecting it.”
Serra pressed the Wolf Pack (24-6) the entire game. Though West Hills was able to break it more often than not, it definitely rattled the offensive concentration of the Wolf Pack.
