Joven Afenir

Vista Murrieta | Baseball

The Broncos' junior had plenty of highlights all over the diamond Thursday, striking out seven in six innings (two runs allowed), collecting the go-ahead hit and turning in a game-saving catch in center field in a 3-2 win over Temecula Valley.

Troy Chavez

Temecula Valley | Boys tennis

The Golden Bears junior swept his sets, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, in Thursday's 13-5 win over Chaparral, giving Temecula Valley an 8-0 start to its Southwestern League slate. He also swept his sets in Tuesday's 11-7 win over Vista Murrieta.

Katie Cleary

Temecula Valley | Softball

The senior hurled a one-hit shutout and helped her cause with a homer in the Golden Bears' win over Murrieta Mesa on Tuesday.

Juliet Eaton

Heritage | Softball

She homered, tripled and drove in two runs in the Patriots' 10-0 win over Perris in Sunbelt League action on Friday. Eaton also homered in a 9-5 loss to Paloma Valley on Wednesday.

Jackson Helms

Murrieta Valley | Boys basketball

The Nighthawks' senior scored 22 points to lead the "Away" team to a 122-99 victory at the Desert Valley All-Star game Friday.

Michael Howe

Great Oak | Boys golf

The Wolfpack senior seemingly turned a corner, putting a rough patch behind him with a 2-under-34 at Redhawk Golf Course on Wednesday in a 191-220 victory over Temecula Valley in a Southwestern League match.

Anthony Johnston

Paloma Valley | Boys volleyball

A two-time All-Valley first-team selection at wide receiver, Johnston turned in 18 kills in the volleyball team's three-game sweep over Hemet on Wednesday in Sunbelt League action.

Danica Mercado

Great Oak | Softball

She homered, stole a base and drove in three runs in Thursday's 7-2 win over Murrieta Mesa in Southwestern League action.

Ashlyn Moriarity

Chaparral | Softball

She homered to help her cause in the pitcher's circle, where she scattered four hits and an unearned run over seven innings in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Great Oak.

Dennis Morton

Temecula Valley | Baseball

The UC Riverside-bound senior hit a rare homer and earned the win with a scoreless seventh inning in a 7-6 win over Murrieta Mesa on Tuesday. Morton drove in three runs in the game.

Trevor Nelson

Tahquitz | Baseball

He doubled, tripled and drove in seven runs on a three-hit day, helping the Titans' down West Valley, 22-1, in Mountain Pass League on Wednesday.

Brandon Porter

Murrieta Valley | Boys swimming

The Nighthawks senior won the 200 IM (1 minute, 58.83 seconds) and the 100 free (50.12) to help Murrieta Valley top Great Oak, 102-68, on Wednesday in a Southwestern League meet. Porter also won the 200 free (1:49.94) in last Monday's 128-42 nonleague win over Riverside Poly.

Omar Sanchez

Weaver | Baseball

He struck out 12 batters in a five-inning no-hitter Thursday, as Weaver topped Compton Hope Centre in Freedom League action.

Darion Williams and Corey Whitaker

Vista Murrieta | Boys track

Stars on Vista Murrieta's football team, the duo combined for four wins in Wednesday's 123-13 win over Temecula Valley. Williams won the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and the long jump (21-9 1/2), while Whitaker picked up wins in the shot put (50-9) and discus (155-8).
