A preview look at Thursday's high school football games:

Temescal Canyon (2-3) at Heritage (4-1)

Kickoff : 7 p.m.

Last meeting : In 2010, Heritage won 41-14

At a glance : A year ago, this was the game that set the tone for the Sunbelt League season when the Patriots jumped out to a quick lead and stunned the Titans. The defending Sunbelt League champs won't sneak up on anyone this year, and this should be a battle between two teams that can run the ball. Playing in place of injured RB Michael Shepherd , RB Dawson Lindeman has risen to second in the Valley with 587 rushing yards on 99 carries. Heritage RB Jamal Morrow is averaging 101 yards per game on the ground. ... Speaking of Shepherd, the senior - who was averaging 237 yards per game before sustaining a leg injury after two games - has yet to be medically cleared to return to practice, he said. He has a doctor's appointment Thursday.

Prediction : Heritage 27, Temescal Canyon 17

Paloma Valley (3-2) at Perris (3-2)

Kickoff : 7 p.m.

Last meeting : In 2010, Paloma Valley won 49-3

At a glance : What has become an annual rout may play a little tighter this year, as an improved Perris team is vying for its first winning season in more than a decade. The Panthers, coming off three consecutive one-win seasons, have lost to their intradistrict rivals eight straight times, since their last victory in 2002. ... Paloma Valley has received a lift from backup QB Brent Boehm , who is playing in place of injured starter Logan Tutwiler. Boehm, a sophomore, completed 16-of-20 passes for 200 yards and three second-half TDs in last week's 33-13 win over Bloomington. ... Perris opened the season with consecutive victories over Moreno Valley Vista del Lago, Moreno Valley Canyon Springs and longtime rival Hemet.

Prediction : Paloma Valley 28, Perris 21

Hamilton (1-3) at Calif. Military Institute (4-2)

Kickoff : 7 p.m.

Last meeting : In 2010, CMI won 49-41

At a glance : It's been a rough road for the Bobcats, who aside from a 54-6 win over Julian in Week 2 have scored just 19 points in three games. Seniors David Apodaca and Alex Lopez and sophomore Christian Ruiz all have more than 200 yards rushing on the season. ... CMI gave Linfield Christian fits last week before falling 10-6.

Prediction : Calif. Military Institute 34, Hamilton 10
