The San Diego Section Division I softball championship game between Carlsbad and Torrey Pines was postponed Saturday night because of a power outage at UC San Diego when a transformer fire knocked out electricity on campus.
The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at UCSD.
“We’re very disappointed; our girls were ready to play and very excited, but there’s nothing we can do about a power outage,” Torrey Pines coach Jon Moore said.
Teams are not allowed to play or practice on Sundays and Monday is a holiday, so the game was moved to Tuesday.
Section Commissioner Jerry Schniepp said there were discussions about changing venues, but ultimately it was decided that the game date would be changed instead.
“In the interest of making sure we have a quality event at a quality facility, we moved it to Tuesday,” Schniepp said.
