Key players, scouting report, facts & figures

Last year: 7-5

Coach: Tony Corley, 7th year

League: Avocado East

Division: I

Key players: Kyle Hendrickson (MLB), Sebastian Tengan (QB), Jack Hofstetter (LB), Grant Huffman (RB), Peter Ricardez (RB), JaJaun Thomas (WR), Hayden Wright (DT), Michael Andrade (DE), Jackson Lively (DB), Derek Cooper (OL), Sam Lee (DL), Bryce Willette (DB).

Scouting report: The Eagles run a triple-option offense, a system based on ball-handling and deception. With Tengan, Ricardez and Huffman back from last season, the offense should run smoothly. Ricardez is a strong, straight-ahead runner. Huffman is someone who can get to the edge. Tengan is extremely effective at running the offense. Thomas, Corley says, is the best receiver the Eagles have had since Anthony Moss more than a decade ago. Thomas is considered a Division I college prospect. The defense is led by Hendrickson, also a D-I prospect and the son of former NFL standout Steve Hendrickson. Hofstetter, Andrade, Wright and Lively are all returning starters on defense. The Eagles return 15 starters from a team that reached the San Diego Section Division I semifinals. “We return our front seven on defense, and as a defensive coach, I love that,” Corley said. “Offensively, we can open things up a little more this season. Tengan has a good arm, and Thomas could be one of the top receivers in the county.”
