Last year: 10-2
Coach: Jon Self, 3rd year
League: Imperial Valley
Key players: Isaak Camparan (Slot-QB), Donovin Buck (LB-WR), Isaiah Quiroz (LB-OL-FB), Bryce Alexander (DB-RB), Remington Campbell (LB-TE), Ross Rubio (RB-LB-QB), Adkin Aguirre (WB), Misael Soto (WB-DB), Andrew Ortiz (LB-FB), Jordan Brewer (HB-CB).
Scouting report: The Wildcats are loaded at the skill positions in their wing-T offense. “We’ve had most of our skill guys since they were sophomores,” Self said. “It’s just a matter of staying away from injuries and creating depth.” Rubio takes over at quarterback. He spent most of the season at the JV level, but came on strong in the playoffs a year ago. Buck, a wide receiver-linebacker, has already committed to San Diego State, and is the cornerstone on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats. Brawley figures to battle Imperial for the league championship. The question for Brawley is whether it can hold down opponents with its 5-2 defense. The fact that most of the players will go both ways will put extra strain on the defense.
