Last year: 1-9

Coach: Kellan Cobbs, 2nd year

League: Grossmont Hills

Division: III

Key players: Chris Meredith (QB), Jesse Bisbal (RB), Michael Ledesma (FS-WR), Francisco Saavedra (OL-DL), Trent Hansen (OL), Blake Dehaven (WR-KR), Josh Longbrake (WR), Jacob Burton (DE-TE), Justin Mitchell (DE-TE), Seth Collins (DB-QB).

Scouting report: The Eagles will count on the passing of Meredith as they compete in one of the toughest leagues in the San Diego Section. Playing in a part-time role, Meredith passed for 736 yards and two touchdowns last year and hopes to inflate his output this season. Granite Hills returns 16 starters. Longbrake, Ledesma and Dehaven are sure-handed receivers. Dehaven is also a quality kick returner. Burton and Mitchell should also figure in the aerial game. Collins will see double duty as a defensive back and quarterback, while Riley Reyes could make an impact in the secondary and as a slotback. Sophomore linebacker Kellan Keier could also blossom. The Eagles return four starters on the offensive line. Saavedra (6-3, 275) is the anchor of the group. Cobbs said the Eagles could rise as high as fourth in the league standings.
