Key players, scouting report, facts & figures

Last year: 8-3

Coach: John Joyner, 5th year

League: Metro Pacific

Division: IV

Key players: Iman Chatman-Dixon (WR-FS), Sebastian Kelley (LB), Evan Davis (WR-CB), Matt Garcia (OL-DL), Eric Flores (WR-DB), Evan Bebee (WR), Damon Willis (WR-LB), Alonso Alzua (RB), Nick Conlin (WR-DB), George Arce (OL-DL).

Scouting report: A quick look at the Crusaders’ preseason prospects reveals that the team is loaded with a half-dozen experienced wide receivers. But with the graduation of all-section QB Joseph Legerrette-Luke, Mater Dei will be looking to 6-1, 190-pound Marco Morales to jump right in and take full advantage. Chatman-Dixon is a Division I recruit at receiver and free safety, and Joyner must find a way to get him the ball. Up front there is some good size with the likes of Garcia (235 pounds) and Arce (245). Defensively, the Crusaders have one of the tallest players in the region at linebacker in the 6-5, 210-pound Kelley. Coming off a league championship season, Mater Dei knows how to win, even though it was upset in the opening round of the playoffs by Mount Miguel. The new playoff brackets, with teams grouped according to recent success, should benefit the Crusaders.
