Last year: 8-4

Coach: Lamont Butler, 1st year

League: Coastal

Division: III

Key players: Josh Gaudet (QB), Anthony Oseguera (WR-S), Ethan Underwood (WR), Dante Fanucchi (RB-ILB), Joey Mets (OL-OLB), Joseph May (OL), Kalen Wood-Warlow (OL), Daniel Mallory (CB), Larry Miller (DT), Christian Arlington (WR-S).

Scouting report: The Panthers lost 13 players to graduation and have just three seniors, but Butler thinks his young and talented team will be competitive. Horizon’s offensive strength is on its line, as most of the group enters its third year playing shoulder to shoulder. Gaudet, a junior starting for the first time, will direct Horizon’s spread offense and look to Oseguera as his main target. Butler will change from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 as the Panthers are blessed more with quickness than size, he said. Oseguera and Mallory will anchor the secondary, while Mets and Fanucchi are the team’s top linebackers. Miller should be a pillar of the defensive line, though his teammates rushing the quarterback are still undecided.
