Last year: 3-8
Coach: Jason Carter, 1st year
Key players: Brandon Richmond (QB), AJ Talman (RB), Nic Skalla (DB-WR), Bret Schuman (LB) Connor Hayden (DB), David McCall (QB).
Scouting report: The Vikings wipe the slate clean, bringing in Carter as their new coach after a season that produced eight losses — three of them in league play — and a first-round exit from the playoffs. Gone is the wing-T offense. Carter is implementing a spread offense built around no-huddle and heavy passing. It remains to be seen if the overhaul will bring success or if it will be another rebuilding year for the Vikings, but what’s clear is Carter’s background and knowledge of football. Carter was the offensive coordinator of a 7-4 La Jolla Country Day team last year, and before that was a quarterback and receiver at Texas A&M and a two-year NFL player. His staff is much the same — a mix of former college and pro players.
