— On Teacher Appreciation Night at West Hills, the Wolf Pack defense put on a clinic. Limiting Serra to 59 total yards and five first downs, West Hills shut out the Conquistadors 23-0 on Friday to improve to 4-0 for the second consecutive year.

“The strength of our team has always been defense,” West Hills coach Tay Sneddon said. “I’m a defensive guy, so it’s awesome to see them playing so well.”

E.J. Garcia had three sacks and Ryden Kerr one. D.J. Lewis collected his fourth interception of the season.

After a sluggish first half, West Hills struck big on the first play after halftime. In motion behind quarterback Stephen Schindler, wide receiver Raphy Carr took a pitch, faked a run right, and fired a strike to a wide-open Lewis, who easily finished a 59-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.

The Wolf Pack reeled off 13 plays on their next possession, and Noah Ylagan posted his second 1-yard TD run of the night for a 20-0 lead.

Daniel McManus, who booted not one, but two 52-yard field goals last week, notched an 18-yarder to finish the scoring and give him five field goals for the season.

Ylagan finished with 99 yards on 17 carries.

Both defenses dominated the first half as the teams combined for only 111 yards.
