RAMONA It was a role call that the Ramona High football team wanted to improve on when it comes to playing Poway.
“We had a show of hands in the team room before the game,” Ramona quarterback Marco Cobian said Friday night. “We asked all the seniors who had beaten Poway to stand and raise their hands. None raised their hands.”
The hands can now be held high after the sixth-ranked Bulldogs laid a 49-7 thrashing on the Titans in a one-sided Palomar League game. The win kept the Bulldogs (7-0, 2-0) unbeaten going into a showdown with No. 4 Oceanside next week.
“We played a good, complete game, but now we’ll have to prepare like we never have for Oceanside,” said Bulldogs coach Damon Baldwin.
Cobian, a sophomore, completed 12 of 18 for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and Brandon Gansch rushed for 124 yards and a score on just 13 carries to pace the Ramona offense. On defense, the Bulldogs limited the Titans (2-5, 0-2) to 75 total yards in the first half and 175 for the game.
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, zipping 80 yards on just five plays to open the game.
A 34-yard burst up the middle by fullback T-Bone Williams led to a 31-yard touchdown run by Nathan Cherek with just 2:06 elapsed in the contest.
