JOHN MAFFEI'S PICKS

MOUNT MIGUEL at SANTANA

Mount Miguel can wrap up the Grossmont Valley League title with a win. The Matadors have won five in a row. Santana has allowed 230 points, including 42 last week against El Capitan. Prediction: Mount Miguel 44, Santana 21

LA COSTA CANYON at OCEANSIDE

LCC has won four in a row, three of those in Avocado West League play and now faces a first-place showdown with No. 2-ranked Oceanside. The Pirates have won three in a row, including 42-0 over Ramona last week with Mikah Holder scoring three times. Prediction: Oceanside 28, La Costa Canyon 21

RAMONA at TORREY PINES

Both teams are unbeaten in Palomar League play, so the title is on the line. Ramona has allowed just 117 points this season. Torrey Pines has won six in a row. Prediction: Torrey Pines 14, Ramona 13

MISSION HILLS at RANCHO BUENA VISTA

Mission Hills is ranked No. 1, but at 2-1 the Grizzlies need a win to get a share of the Avocado East League title. Mission Hills has allowed only 68 points all season. RBV has won three in a row, beating then-No. 1 San Pasqual 38-36 last week. Prediction: Mission Hills 27, Rancho Buena Vista 14

POWAY at CARLSBAD

Poway snapped a three-game losing streak last week with a 48-7 win over Westview. Carlsbad is fighting for a top-four seed in Division I. Prediction: Carlsbad 28, Poway 14

VALHALLA at STEELE CANYON

The Norsemen (1-7) need a win to have a chance at the playoffs. The Cougars have lost four in a row, but have been outscored just 58-50 in the last three games. Prediction: Steele Canyon 24, Valhalla 13

HELIX at GROSSMONT

Grossmont Hills League title will be on the line. Helix has won three in a row, outscoring those opponents 136-30. Grossmont has won five in a row. QB Anthony Lawrence has thrown for 2,096 yards and needs 392 to break the San Diego Section career record for passing yards. Prediction: Helix 35, Grossmont 24

Season record: 49-14

CRAIG MALVEAUX'S PICKS

LA JOLLA at MADISON

Defense has been an Achilles’ heel for La Jolla, surrendering 92 points the past two weeks. The last time the Warhawks scored less than 40 points was in September against Eastlake, Madison’s only loss of the season. Prediction: Madison 42, La Jolla 27

MIRA MESA at CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC

The Marauders will attempt to halt a two-game skid in which they allowed 97 points. A must win for Cathedral Catholic if the Dons want to remain in the mix for the Eastern League championship. Prediction: Cathedral Catholic 24, Mira Mesa 10

LINCOLN at HOOVER

Hoover bullied Patrick Henry, accumulating 444 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 50 carries last week. The Hornets’ offense has lacked sting, managing one touchdown the past two weeks. Prediction: Hoover 24, Lincoln 7

MISSION BAY at POINT LOMA

Madison remains the only blemish on the schedule thus far for the Buccaneers. After a slow start, the Pointers have defeated five of their past six opponents. Prediction: Point Loma 17, Mission Bay 14

UNIVERSITY CITY vs. CHRISTIAN

The Patriots’ lone loss came in a three-point nail-biter to Mission Bay. Despite a tough season, the Centurions can grab the Central League wheel with a victory. Prediction: Christian 31, University City 17

OLYMPIAN at EASTLAKE

For the third consecutive season, this matchup will determine the Metro Mesa League title. Olympian emerged victorious in both, but the Eagles will face their toughest test of the season tonight. Prediction: Eastlake 34, Olympian 30

CRAWFORD at MOUNTAIN EMPIRE

A victory seals the Manzanita League title for the Colts, who appear as if they’ll be a Division V force in the playoffs. Mountain Empire, which won by forfeit last week over a depleted Calipatria team, has had an up-down season that includes a 40-0 win and a 62-0 defeat. Prediction: Crawford 38, Mountain Empire 14

Season record: 48-15
