Locals earn state baseball honors

Aiken, Hudgins, Jackson, Rose recognized by Cal-Hi Sports


Brady Aiken earned first-team All-State honors for Cathedral Catholic.

Cathedral Catholic pitcher/outfielder Brady Aiken, who was chosen state Player of the Year last month by Cal-Hi Sports, leads a group of four local high school baseball players named first-team All-State.

Aiken, picked first overall by Houston in the pro baseball draft, is joined by Valhalla catcher Chris Hudgins, Rancho Bernardo catcher Alex Jackson and Granite Hills pitcher/outfielder Jayson Rose. All are seniors.

Cal-Hi Sports, which also compiles state team rankings, has chronicled prep athletics in California for decades.

Second team: Alex Homick (Rancho Bernardo) Sr.; Sean Bouchard (Cathedral Catholic) Sr.; Jordan Qsar (Valhalla) Sr.

Third team: Casey Henderson (Rancho Bernardo) Sr.; Hunter Stratton (Grossmont) Sr.

Medium schools first team: Riley Adams (Canyon Crest) Sr.

Medium schools second team: Brad Moreno (Mount Miguel) Sr.; Alan Strong (Santana) Sr.; Esteban Velasco (Bonita Vista) Sr.

Small schools first team: Sam Gershow (Christian) Sr.; Dillon Paulson (Santa Fe Christian) Jr.

Underclass first team: Gage Canning (Ramona) Jr.; Dillon Paulson (Santa Fe Christian) Jr.; Kyle Dean (transferred from Poway to Rancho Bernardo) Jr.; Mickey Moniak (La Costa Canyon) So.; Daniel Vasquez (Granite Hills) Jr.

Underclass second team: Conrado Diaz (San Ysidro) So.
