LJCD junior commits to Cal women's team

Notebook: Four San Diego players chosen for Cal-Hi Sports All-State Elite girls basketball squad


Alaysia Styles averaged 17.7 points a game this season for the Torreys.

Alaysia Styles, who has helped La Jolla Country Day to more than 50 wins the last two seasons, has committed to play women’s basketball at Cal.

A 6-foot-2 junior, Styles averaged 17.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots this season.

Styles chose Cal, which was 15-17 last season, over Maryland and Oregon State.

Basketball honors

Four players from San Diego have been named to the 10-player first-team 2016 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Elite girls basketball squad.

Seniors Sierra Campisano of Torrey Pines and Dijonai Carrington of Horizon Christian and juniors Destiny Littleton of Bishop’s and Khayla Rooks of Mission Hills were the local players honored.

Campisano, who has signed with Oregon, averaged 30.0 points, 15.9 rebounds and 5.7 blocked shots a game.

Carrington, who has signed with Stanford, averaged 18.8 points and 13.5 rebounds.

Littleton averaged 35.7 points a game and is in line to become San Diego’s all-time career scorer.

Rooks averaged 20.3 points and 12.0 rebounds in leading Mission Hills to the San Diego Section Open Division title.

Washington-bound Mai-Loni Henson (La Jolla Country Day) was a second-team All-State selection while Styles (La Jolla Country Day) was third team.

Cal Poly Pomona-bound Casey McWilliam (Mt. Carmel) and Point Loma Nazarene-bound Carol Schroeder (Bonita Vista) were named second-team Large Schools. Cal State Los Angeles-bound Madison Adams (Mission Hills) was a third-team Large Schools selection.

Junior Satera Bates (Mount Miguel) was second-team Medium Schools while junior Alessandra Aguirre (Bishop’s) was second-team Small Schools.
