POWAY at OLYMPIAN

Poway has split its first two games of the season, beating Bonita Vista and losing to No. 5 Lincoln. Olympian is also 1-1, defeating Santa Fe Christian in double overtime, then losing to Grossmont. The Eagles offense — behind QB Nico Mendoza, WR Isaiah Williams and RBs Rashaun Brown and David Tirey — is averaging 435.5 yards a game. The teams split a pair of games last year with Poway winning in Week 3 of the regular season and Olympian winning in the playoffs.

Prediction: Olympian 24, Poway 21

SERRA at SAN DIEGO SOUTHWEST

Serra had a bye last week after QB Timmy Zebroski and RB Myles Bryant led the Conquistadors to a 41-16 win over El Cajon Valley. Southwest has started 0-2, losing to San Diego and Crawford. RBs Leonard Hoar and Jovan Young lead the Raiders ground attack.

Prediction: Serra 31, Southwest 21

MATER DEI CATHOLIC at MISSION HILLS

The Crusaders bounced back from a 41-7 loss to Ramona by beating El Capitan. Mission Hills, ranked No. 1, has scored 83 points in wins over Paramount and Desert Hills of Utah. Grizzlies QB Jack Tuttle has thrown for 579 yards and 11 TDs. WR Chris Olave has 10 catches for 298 yards and 6 TDs. Mater Dei beat Mission Hills 41-14 last season.

Prediction: Mission Hills 31, Mater Dei 17

ESCONDIDO at LA COSTA CANYON

After shutting out Mission Bay in its opener, Escondido fell 28-20 to Mira Mesa last week. La Costa Canyon is off to a strong start, outscoring La Serna and Mt. Carmel 84-20 in its first two games.

Prediction: La Costa Canyon 31, Escondido 17

FRANCIS PARKER at SAN DIEGO

Francis Parker has scored just 10 points in losses to Kearny and Clairemont. Lancers QB Ryan Sanborn has 212 yards total offense while sophomore LB Sam Camposeco has 28 tackles. Behind QB Quinn O’Connor’s 171 yards and 3 TDs, San Diego scored an opening-week win over San Diego Southwest. Cavers WR Thomas Marcus caught all three TDs. RB Raiden Hunter had 10 carries for 87 yards.

Prediction: San Diego 35, Francis Parker 14

STEELE CANYON at GRANITE HILLS

Steele Canyon opened with a win over Brawley, then fell 41-10 to No. 2 Madison. Granite Hills lost 52-7 to San Pasqual in its opener, but rebounded with a 34-17 win over Valhalla. QB Jacob Siegfried has thrown for 175 yards and run for 184.

Prediction: Steele Canyon 24, Granite Hills 21

UNIVERSITY CITY at SCRIPPS RANCH

University City is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Sweetwater and Monte Vista. Centurions sophomore QB Gunnar Gray has thrown for 369 yards while E’lonie Rico has 255 rushing yards and Marcel Patterson 182. Scripps Ranch dropped its opener 33-20 to Valhalla then suffered a tough 42-35 overtime loss to Palm Springs.

Prediction: University City 34, Scripps Ranch 21

VALHALLA at MOUNT MIGUEL

Valhalla opened with a win over Scripps Ranch, then fell to Granite Hills. Mount Miguel started with a loss to Morse, then rebounded with a 15-6 win over Chula Vista. Matadors QB Mugabe Miller has 333 yards passing and 97 rushing. RB Shemar Greene, who rushed for 1,100 yards last season, has 266 yards on the ground and 144 receiving. Santino Pacheco has 20 tackles for Mount Miguel.

Prediction: Valhalla 34, Mount Miguel 24

WEST HILLS at MISSION BAY

West Hills started with a 36-17 loss to El Centro Southwest, then bounced back with a 34-17 win over Santana. Ryan Jewell has 256 receiving and return yards for the Wolf Pack. QB Jordan Young has thrown for 171 yards and 4 touchdowns. Mission Bay had an early-season bye last week after dropping its opener 27-0 to Escondido.

Prediction: West Hills 24, Mission Bay 14

RANCHO BUENA VISTA at VISTA

RBV got off to a good start with a 40-37 win over Irvine, then fell 28-0 to Westview. Vista opened with a 38-22 loss to No. 6 San Marcos, then played great defense and beat San Pasqual 14-7. This cross-town rivalry started in 1989. Vista leads the series 18-10, winning the last three.

Prediction: Vista 31, Rancho Buena Vista 17

Last week: 6-4. Season: 13-7.
