Patriots will play top-seeded Carlsbad in the quarterfinals.

Same teams. Same venue. Same result.

Patrick Henry handled El Camino for the second time this season at home, scoring a trio of goals to collect a 3-0 victory in the opening round of the CIF Division I playoffs against the Wildcats.

The Patriots (15-3-3) advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010 when they defeated Mar Vista 4-0. They will play at top-seeded Carlsbad (12-3-5) on Friday.

“Girls played a strong game and finished the opportunities that came to us with goals,” said Patrick Henry coach Jason Aldous.

Megan Guico opened the scoring in the first half.

The senior forward, who registered four goals and five assists in the regular season, found the soccer ball at her feet after it ricocheted off of a few Wildcats and smashed it from the top of the box past the goalkeeper’s outstretched arms.

“I saw the goal open up in front of me, aimed for the corner and hit it as hard as I could.” Guico said.

“It was almost a perfect layout.”

Ten minutes later, Guico threatened again. This time, however, she crossed the ball from the left wing. The curling ball connected with freshman Hailey Revello’s head for a two-goal lead.

El Camino (9-9-3) threatened several times, but couldn’t find the net despite five shots on goal, scooped up by junior goalkeeper Jasmine Cibrian, who collected her seventh clean sheet.

“Right place, right time with a couple of saves,” Aldous said.

“She’s been terrific for us.”
