Randy Kreglow, in his third year as Calvin Christian head coach, believes the Crusaders will be a force in the Pacific League this season.
Last year: 3-7
Coach: Randy Kreglow, 3rd year
Key players: Quinn Albright (QB), Morgan Spoelstra (RB-ILB), Thomas Bousema (TB), Danny Lovato (RB), Christian Drown (G-ILB), Aaron Patton (C), Luke Steenstra (ILB).
Scouting report: While Tri-City Christian and Army-Navy are known as the perennial powers of the Pacific League, Kreglow believes his team can compete for a league title, even with just 21 players on his roster. The Crusaders are young but talented. They have a first-year quarterback in Albright and moved Spoelstra (a 6-foot, 205-pound senior) off the offensive line to become their featured running back. Lovato mostly watched from the sideline as a freshman last year, but has developed into a speedy back who can get outside the tackles and complement Spoelstra’s straight-ahead running style. Drown was an all-league player last season and will anchor the Crusaders’ line, and Steenstra will be called on to captain the defense.
