Key players, scouting report, facts & figures

Last Year: 9-2

Coach: Mike Martinez, 5th year

League: City

Division: III

Key players: Jabril Clewis (WR-DB), Daybreon Harris (RB), Jesus Cruz (DB-WR), C.J. Hill (DB), Zach Brown (LB) Ryan Neubauer (RB), Ben Cooper (K).

Scouting report: Not much was expected from the Patriots a year ago. Understandable, considering Patrick Henry served as a punching bag for opponents between 2009 and 2011. During those seasons, the Patriots registered five times as many losses (25) as wins (5). Last year, Martinez scrapped everything — the schemes, the playbooks, even the coaching staff — which resulted in nine regular-season victories and a playoff berth as the Patriots blanketed teams using a 5-2 man-to-man defense. The skill-position leaders, including QB James McCormick and the team’s top three rushers, are gone, though playmakers still exist on defense, most notably Clewis, an SDSU commitment who also plays receiver. There’s enough to be competitive and vie for a second consecutive playoff berth.
