L.A. Loyola takes National Division title

UCLA-bound 7-footer Thomas Welsh leads Cubs in Under Armour Holiday Classic.

UCLA-bound 7-footer Thomas Welsh scored 25 points, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked six shots and altered at least a dozen more Monday, leading L.A. Loyola to a convincing 78-57 win over Corona Centennial before a standing-room-only crowd in the National Division title game of the Under Armour Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines High.

Loyola (12-0) is ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 3 in the nation by MaxPreps. Centennial (12-2) is ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 9 in the nation.

Max Hazzard added 17 points for Loyola. Parker Jackson had 15 for the Cubs. Hazzard was named the tournament MVP while Welsh and Jackson were all-tournament selections.

Deonte North, who had five 3-pointers, led Centennial with 27 points. Sedrick Barfield added 15. Both were named to the all-tournament team.
