Broncos catcher equals San Diego Section career mark with 47th homer

Rancho Bernardo senior Alex Jackson has 47 career home runs.

Rancho Bernardo High slugger Alex Jackson hit his 11th home run of the season Monday, the 47th of his prep career, tying him for first all-time in the San Diego Section with John Drennen, a former RB slugger.

Drennen hit 47 homers for the Broncos from 2002-05 and was a first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians - the 33rd player taken - in the 2005 draft.

Baseball America's first mock draft has Jackson going sixth overall in the first round to the Seattle Mariners.

Jackson had five homers as a freshman, 17 as a sophomore, 14 as a junior and has 11 with five regular-season games and the playoffs left to play.

Jackson's homer Monday was a 400-plus foot bomb that cleared the football stands in right-center field at Poway.

Jackson popped up and was hit by two pitches in his other at-bats Monday.

The No. 1 ranked Broncos (23-3, 10-0) clinched the Palomar League championship with a 10-5 win.

RB plays again Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at home against Poway.
