Paso Robles outlook: Like El Capitan, Paso Robles is enjoying the finest season in school history under longtime coach Rich Schimke, becoming the first Central Coast team invited to the state playoffs. The Bearcats of San Luis Obispo County, ranked 18th in the state, average 39.4 points per game but won their section title over Newbury Park 13-10. Justin Davis has 2,502 passing yards with 31 TDs. Bailey Gaither has 69 catches for 1,453 yards and 20 TDs. Christian Erickson has 1,377 rushing yards and 16 TDs.
El Capitan outlook: Under coach Ron Burner, the Vaqueros are ranked No. 16 in the state with a superior defense averaging 11.2 ppg. El Cap won its first section title with a 14-7 win over Rancho Bernardo. Brad Cagle (2,650 passing yards, 29 TDs) and Isaiah Capoocia (59 catches, 941 yards, 15 TDs) made the All-San Diego Section first team, leading the offense to 37.8 ppg. D.J. Smith has rushed for 1,195 yards and 19 TDs. Among the top QBs in section history, Cagle added 500 rushing yards and 8 TDs. Capoocia has 307 rushing yards and 5 TDs.
