Ricky Mendoza
2-MINUTE DRILL
Coach: Rob Gilster. Overall record — 191-118-2 (25 years). Record at school — 125-75-2 (17 years).
Division: III.
League: Valley.
Section titles: 5 (2004, ’05, ’07, ’08, ’11).
Player to watch: Lefty QB Rhett Reilly came on in relief four games into the season and was spectacular, throwing for 1,202 yards with 12 TDs and only three interceptions the rest of the season.
At a glance: Traditionally, the Jaguars have had their best seasons when they return a quarterback and a tailback. They return both this season in Reilly and TB Jacob Newman, who rushed for 838 yards. Center Ricky Mendoza, a second-team all-leaguer, is back to provide some protection up front. The OL has some beef in Jacob Glennie (250) and Gabe Vallez (260). Both lines figure to be a strength for the Jags. LB Trent Reilly anchors the defense and there is a good set of DBs. Valley Center is 16-17 since its last section title in 2011.
