Olympian quarterback Garry Cannon has helped the Eagles win five in a row.

EL CAPITAN at VALHALLA

Over the last few years, El Capitan (2-4, 0-1) has made its living throwing the ball. This season, the Vaqueros have 539 rushing yards and 528 passing yards. Valhalla (5-1, 1-0) has won five in a row since an opening-week loss to Otay Ranch. The Norsemen have outscored opponents 191-30 in those five wins.

Prediction: Valhalla 28, El Capitan 14

CARLSBAD at LA COSTA CANYON

Carlsbad (3-3, 1-0) is led by QB Shea Morales, who has thrown for 999 yards, with the majority going to WR Matt Spiering. RBs Josiah Villagomez and Layth Haddad have a combined 966 yards. Ranked No. 4 in the county, La Costa Canyon (5-1, 1-0) has won five in a row since an opening-week loss to Phoenix Desert Vista, the No. 8-ranked team in Arizona. The Mavericks defeated then-No. 5 El Camino last week.

Prediction: La Costa Canyon 21, Carlsbad 14

OLYMPIAN at EASTLAKE

Olympian (5-1, 1-0) has won five in a row since an opening-week, one-point loss to Mt. Carmel. The Eagles are led by QB Garry Cannon and RBs Noah Lacsina and Michael Kipling. Eastlake (2-5, 0-1) has losses to No. 2 Helix, No. 3 St. Augustine, No. 9 Cathedral Catholic and a good Bonita Vista team last week. The Titans have rushed for 1,523 yards this season.

Prediction: Eastlake 21, Olympian 17

MADISON at POINT LOMA

Madison (4-2, 1-0) has won two straight since a one-point loss to Eastlake. QB Terrell Carter, RB Erick Buchanan and WR Brandon Lewis are the offensive leaders for a team that’s averaging 39.8 points a game. Point Loma (4-2, 0-0) bounced back from a loss to Olympian to beat Hoover last week. The Pointers have allowed just 101 points in six games.

Prediction: Madison 27, Point Loma 24

MT. CARMEL at POWAY

SDSU-bound QB Lucas Johnson leads Mt. Carmel (5-1, 1-0). He has 1,004 yards and 11 TDs passing with 710 yards and 11 more TDs rushing. Poway (3-3, 0-0) has played the tougher schedule, losing to No. 8 El Camino, No. 1 Mission Hills and No. 7 Grossmont two weeks ago. The Titans have allowed just 105 points this season.

Prediction: Poway 21, Mt. Carmel 17

OTAY RANCH at CHULA VISTA

QB Oscar Limon has thrown for 1,062 yards and 11 TDs for Otay Ranch (3-3, 0-0). RB Samuel Stephens has 634 rushing yards, and WR Adrian Rodriguez is averaging 27.8 yards on 16 catches. Chula Vista (1-6, 0-1) has a win over Sweetwater and a close loss to Castle Park. The Spartans have been outscored 225-121 this season.

Prediction: Otay Ranch 35, Chula Vista 14

CLAIREMONT at SAN DIEGO

Clairemont (3-3, 0-0) is led by RBs Dylan Irwin and Dylan Suitts. The Chieftains’ only win against a county team was 27-26 in overtime against Montgomery. San Diego (1-5, 0-1) is led by QB Grant Donovan, RBs Jushawnte Spann, Savion Ramsey and Omar Smith (all with at least 288 rushing yards) and big-play WR Joshua Mason. The Cavers have lost three in a row since registering a win over Calexico.

Prediction: Clairemont 25, San Diego 21

STEELE CANYON at GROSSMONT

Steele Canyon (3-3, 0-1) had won two in a row before losing to Helix last week. Grossmont (6-0, 1-0) has climbed to No. 7 in the county. Foothillers QB Hunter Gaines has thrown for 1,163 yards and 10 TDs. WR Khaleed Davis has 607 yards receiving and 236 on punt returns.

Prediction: Grossmont 27, Steele Canyon 14

HOOVER at PATRICK HENRY

Hoover (2-4, 0-0) has thrown just 19 passes this season while rushing 162 times for 1,483 yards. Demontauz Gray leads the team with 112 carries for 1,116 yards and 14 TDs. After winning their first two games, the Cardinals have dropped four in a row, including 56-27 to Point Loma last week. Patrick Henry (2-5, 0-1) is led by QB John Demos, who has 977 yards passing. The Patriots have lost four in a row.

Prediction: Hoover 27, Patrick Henry 20

SAN PASQUAL at ORANGE GLEN

San Pasqual (2-4, 1-0) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 16-10 win over Valley Center last week. Orange Glen (4-2, 0-0) had a bye last week after seeing its four-game winning streak snapped by El Cajon Valley. The game, known as “The Battle for the Bear,” pits schools less than 4 miles apart on Bear Valley Parkway in Escondido. San Pasqual has won eight in a row and 18 of the last 20.

Prediction: San Pasqual 21, Orange Glen 17

Last week: 8-2. Season: 55-15.
