Backed by a 10-hit attack, sophomore right-hander Catie Dobbs tossed a two-hitter to help Granite Hills to a 4-3 softball victory over previously undefeated Ramona on Monday night in the Platinum Division championship game of the Cougar Classic at Kit Carson Park.

Were it not for a pair of throwing errors, Dobbs might have tossed a shutout.

“This gives us a confidence boost,” Dobbs said after her eight-strikeout performance through six innings. “Definitely, teams have overlooked us.

“We have to keep working and not get too cocky because there’s a lot of season left.”

Granite Hills got on the scoreboard first on Bailey Wallace’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.

The Eagles followed that up with another run in the next inning on Karen Creech’s two-out triple.

Then the Bulldogs (5-1), thanks to a pair of throwing errors by Granite Hills (5-1-1), tied the game 3-3 in the fifth inning on sophomore Seneca Curo’s three-run homer to right-center.

Wallace’s third hit of the game, a fifth-inning single, drove in courtesy runner Morgan Kelly with the go-ahead run.

Ramona center fielder Jordyn Fick kept the game close with a diving catch of a fly ball that was headed over the fence. Fick dove and caught the ball, landing beyond the fence for the final out in the fifth inning.
