Del Norte got into the win column for the first time this season, overcoming a plethora of mistakes and outlasting Fallbrook 27-21 in the teams’ nonleague game Friday at Del Norte.

The Nighthawks’ winning score came on a 26-yard touchdown reception by junior Alex Moore with 27 second left in the game.

“I was supposed to run a post, and I juked out the corner, ran a post and caught it in the end zone,” Moore said. “I was really excited.”

Del Norte (1-1) fumbled the ball five times, losing three, threw a pair of interceptions and committed eight turnovers. Junior quarterback Jefferson Daynes completed just 15 of 41 passes, but hit the big one when it counted.

“Whatever just happened, we can’t do anything about it,” Del Norte coach Patrick Coleman said. “One of our principles is we affect what we control. We don’t control the past, so when things happen, we have to forget it or learn from it and produce.

“The players played as a team, and the coaches coached as a team within a team. This is all about the players and the staff, and it’s a true program win.”

Del Norte senior John Cappiello ran for a score and threw an 80-yard halfback pass to junior Mohammad Farah.

The Warriors (0-2) lost their first two games for the second straight season.

Fallbrook senior quarterback Jake McBroom threw for 236 yards and two TDs — both to junior Luke Conley — and ran for a score. Junior Jalen Webb ran for a game-high 33 yards.
