Clairemont (3-2) opens Central League play coming off a win over Montgomery. The Chieftains are led by QB Griffin Catarius and RBs Devon Rensfield and Austin Rice. San Diego (4-0) is trying to go 5-0 for the first time since 1994. QB Quinn O’Connor has thrown for 518 yards with one interception and 9 TDs. Raiden Hunter has 298 yards rushing and Jayden Wickware 263. The Cavers are averaging 9.3 yards on 101 rushing attempts.

MIRA MESA at STEELE CANYON
Mira Mesa (4-0) is trying to go 5-0 for the first time since 1990. QB Noah Tumblin leads the team with 1,203 yards — 837 of that passing with 10 TDs. WR Artyom Harr has 16 catches for 386 yards. Steele Canyon (2-2) bounced back from two straight losses with a 14-13 win over Otay Ranch.

Cathedral Catholic (1-3) is off to its worst start since 2010, but the Dons’ losses are to three teams in MaxPreps’ state top 100. QB Nico Mendoza leads Olympian (3-2) with 989 yards passing. Three backs are over 240 yards, led by David Tirey’s 338. WR Isaiah Williams has 29 catches for 412 yards.

Mozes Mooney is the San Diego Section all-time leader in catches (231) and TD receptions (56). He scored six times last week against Monte Vista, including a 96-yard kickoff return.

Sophomore QB Timmy Zebroski, who has 902 total yards, leads Serra (2-2). RB Myles Bryant has 439 yards on 54 carries. Four WRs have more than 100 yards. MLB Kieve Curry has 51 tackles. Sweetwater (1-3) was blanked by Carlsbad and Lincoln before beating El Cajon Valley 46-7 last week.
