Week 11 prep football notes

With the clock running down on St. Augustine’s win over Cathedral Catholic, the announcer introduced a Dons substitution that brought the crowd on both sides to its feet, cheering. No. 88, Brycen Newman, who played freshman football and later was diagnosed with brain cancer as a sophomore, always wanted to play in a varsity game. He got his chance, but Cathedral fumbled the ball away. Still, Newman, a senior now in recovery, had his wish granted.

San Diego’s Thomas Marcus hit the trifecta, rushing for a TD, throwing for a TD and catching a TD pass as the Cavers finished the regular season 10-0 to match the school record for wins in a season.

Ramona finished the regular season 10-0 for the first time in school history. WR Tristan Stacy had a 64-yard reception and returned a punt 60 yards.

Chula Vista’s Kajahan Duncan rushed for 149 yards and 2 TDs as the Spartans beat Sweetwater in one of the county’s oldest rivalries.

Brad Jeremiah completed 19 of 27 for 429 yards and 6 touchdowns in Christian’s upset of Point Loma. Wide receiver Jesse Matthews caught 3 TD passes. Jeremiah became the first Christian QB to throw for more than 3,000 yards in the regular season.

Oceanside sophomore Jose Aguirre hit a 25-yard field goal with under a minute to play for the winning margin against El Camino. QB Kyrin Beachem rushed 17 times for 217 yards. The Wildcats haven’t beaten the Pirates since 2010.

Montgomery’s Hunter Joseph rushed for 206 yards to help the Aztecs clinch the Metro Pacific League crown.

University City running back Marcel Patterson carried 21 times for 280 yards and TD runs of 75, 3, 49 and 55 yards.

La Jolla QB Trevor Scully completed 23 of 45 for 312 yards and 3 TDs.

Scripps Ranch’s Keith Davis scored 6 TDs, four on pass receptions, one rushing and one on an interception return.

Kearny’s Hayden Lundy had five catches for 135 yards and 2 TDs. Komets RB Brenton Bell rushed 25 times for 175 yards and 2 scores.

Playing just the first half, Madison running back Kenan Christon had 114 yards from scrimmage and scored 3 TDs.

Lincoln WR Jailen Bailey had seven catches for 144 yards and a TD. Kenyon Sims rushed 14 times for 106 yards and a score. QB Asante Hartzog was 15 of 24 for 266 yards and 2 TDs.

Patrick Henry QB Ethan Gomez completed 9 of 12 passes for 154 yards and 3 TDs.

Mount Miguel QB Mugabe Miller had a 79-yard TD run. Santino Pacheco scored on a 65-yard punt return.

Rikki Mazzetti threw for 256 yards and 4 TDs to lead Valley Center.

Helix sophomore Elelyon Noa rushed for 112 yards and 3 TDs. The Scotties pitched their fifth shutout of the season and have yielded only 24 points in 9 wins.

Grossmont’s Shevell Sterling rushed 16 times for 191 yards and 2 TDs. The Foothillers forced five turnovers.

Robert Whitehead grabbed two interceptions, and Kenneth Watson had a 67-yard TD run to lift Steele Canyon.

Sophomore Deniro Osuna threw for 236 yards, including TD passes of 34 and 22 yards to Thadeo Campbell as Central beat Brawley for the first time in six years in the 74th annual Bell Game.

Tyler Saikhon tallied his 27th and 28th TDs as El Centro Southwest recorded its fifth shutout to earn its first outright Imperial Valley League championship.

Brandon Hueso scored 5 TDs, and Diego Hernandez had 12 tackles and 2 INTs for Imperial.

Rancho Bernardo WR Malcolm Ross-Turner had a pair of receiving TDs, both coming from sophomore QB Noah Morris, who was 12 of 18 for 182 yards and 4 TDs.

La Costa Canyon scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to beat Torrey Pines, the winning score coming on a 17-yard pass from QB Jake Neufeld to Christian Estrella with 1:46 to play.

Otay Ranch RB Sammy Paranada rushed for 111 yards and 3 TDs as the Mustangs clinched the Metro Mesa League title.

Eastlake QB Daniel Amon threw 2 TD passes to WR Jalyn Jackson.

S.D. Southwest rushed for 304 yards and 4 TDs, with 159 yards coming from Joshua Sanchez.

Hilltop QB Daniel McPherren threw a TD pass to Gus Ferreira to propel the Lancers to the Metro South Bay League title.

Rancho Buena Vista RB Dorian Richardson carried 24 times for 126 yards and 3 TDs.

QB Westin Erdman threw 2 TD passes for San Pasqual.

Classical’s Jake Gilbert rushed 28 times for 284 yards and 2 TDs.

Santa Fe Christian TE-DL Luke Sanders rushed 21 times for 174 yards and 2 TDs and caught a 60-yard TD pass in his first game as a running back.
