SAN MARCOS at TORREY PINES
Every week in the Avocado League is a challenge. Sixth-ranked San Marcos (6-1, 3-1) is led by QB Miles Hastings, who returned from an injury last week. Quinn Roff is the main man on the Knights defense. No. 1 Torrey Pines (7-0, 3-0) attacks on the ground behind RBs Mac Bingham, who has 901 yards, and Evan Galluzzi, who has 513. QB Jason Heine has 1,012 yards total offense. The Falcons, who have 13 sacks and 7 interceptions, have allowed just 94 points.
Prediction: Torrey Pines 30, San Marcos 27
POINT LOMA at LINCOLN
This is a must-win game for both teams to stay in the Western League race. Point Loma (4-3, 0-1) had a three-game winning streak snapped by Madison last week. Lincoln (5-2, 0-1) bounced back from a loss to St. Augustine with a convincing win over La Jolla.
Prediction: Point Loma 28, Lincoln 24
HILLTOP at SWEETWATER
The winner gets an early jump in the four-team Metro South Bay League. Hilltop (2-5, 0-0) averages 296.7 yards a game, 204.0 passing behind QB Joey Castillo, who has thrown for 1,349 yards. He has four targets in Marcos Deanda, Jeremiah Serrano, Dylan McCoy and Marko Aki. LB Oscar Piceno has 59 tackles while Gage Scruggs has 52. Sweetwater (2-5, 0-0) is led by QB Luciano Estopier.
Prediction: Hilltop 28, Sweetwater 24
ST. AUGUSTINE at MADISON
Both teams need a win to keep Cathedral Catholic in sight in the Western League. No. 7 Madison (5-2, 1-1) averages 364 yards a game on offense behind RB Kenan Christon, who has 81 carries for 745 yards and 9 TDs. QB Brock White has thrown for 349 yards in two games. The Warhawks bounced back from a 49-7 loss to Cathedral with a 45-33 win over Point Loma. No. 8 St. Augustine (5-2, 1-1) averages 360.1 yards on offense. Nimble QB Angelo Peraza has thrown for 1,275 yards and RB Byron Cardwell has 663 rushing yards. The Saints defense — led by JT Penick, William Simon and Connor Heffler — had allowed just 58 points until losing 34-14 to Cathedral last week.

MORSE at MIRA MESA
This is a key Eastern League game. Morse (4-3, 0-1) averages 223 yards a game rushing behind RBs

SAN DIEGO at CORONADO
San Diego (4-2) can go a long way to securing a high seed in the Division IV playoffs with a nonleague win. The Cavers, who average 265.3 yards a game on the ground, are led by RBs Raiden Hunter, Mo Jackson and Jayden Wickware. Coronado (6-1) is led by QB Colter Maldonado, who has more than 1,500 yards total offense.
Prediction: San Diego 35, Coronado 24
MONTGOMERY at CASTLE PARK
Metro Pacific League play gets under way this week. Montgomery (3-4, 0-0) is led by QB Keoa Gumataotao, who has 1,028 yards total offense, 846 passing. Castle Park (3-4, 0-0) was forced to forfeit two games earlier in the season because the Trojans didn't have enough healthy players. That has changed and the team has won two of its last three behind QB Diego Martinez, who has accounted for 13 touchdowns.
Prediction: Montgomery 31, Castle Park 27
SAN PASQUAL at VALLEY CENTER
San Pasqual (4-3, 1-1) faces a must-win Valley League game. Valley Center (4-3, 2-0) averages 400.4 yards a game, 220.3 passing behind QB Rikki Mazzetti, who has thrown for 1,242 yards. WR Tuupash Turner has 39 catches for 775 yards. RB Mateo Sinohui is among the county leaders with 176 carries for 1,195 yards and 16 TDs.
Prediction: Valley Center 28, San Pasqual 24
ESCONDIDO at WEST HILLS
Escondido (3-4), which has lost two in a row, is on the road for a late-season nonleague contest. West Hills (6-1) is off to its best start since 2001.

EL CAPITAN at GRANITE HILLS
El Capitan (2-5, 0-2) looks to be the spoiler in the Grossmont Hills League. The Vaqueros, who have lost two in a row, average 324.3 yards a game behind QB Wick Hauser, who has thrown for 1,189 yards and 14 TDs, and RB Donny Green, who has 590 rushing yards. No. 10 Granite Hills (7-0, 2-0) looks to keep pace in the league with Helix. The Eagles are led by QB Cristopher Ostreng, who has 1,603 yards total offense, 1,127 passing. DB Ethen Bishop leads the defense with 68 tackles and a pair of interceptions.
Prediction: Granite Hills 42, El Capitan 28
